Money

30 bucks to go paintballin'! Man, that's pretty steep. Worth it, sure. But still...

A while back I heard someone make the comment that it's starting to cost a fortune to be involved with our youth group anymore. Seems like that's true, doesn't it? 30 bucks for this, 60 or so bucks for PlanetWisdom. Not to scare you guys, but this mission camp we're looking at going to this summer is somewhere around [oops, Aaron doesn't want you to know this one - sorry Aaron]. And those of you joining me in Brazil...well, let's not even go there!

I've been thinking lately about our youth group's financial situation. Obviously we're not the richest church in town. But does that matter? Does that limit us from doing the same great things that bigger youth groups do? I don't think so.

The Bible teaches on more than one occasion that when we give to the Lord, we will be blessed. I believe that if our youth group begins to focus our money on things like mission trips and various mission projects (such as Pankajan), then God will bless us somehow - maybe even to the extent that fun stuff like paintballing could be covered by the youth budget (you never know!). It's something to consider, and I hope all of you will.

Yes, it is expensive to be in our youth group sometimes. But since we're already spending money anyway, why not spend a little more? We should start looking for opportunities to give. This month, when we take up our offering for Pankajan, try giving a little more than the usual two or three dollars. The next mission project we do, make it a point to pay your own way with a giving spirit. Be on the look out for other opportunities - like the OneVerse program (click here if you don't remember learning about that at PlanetWisdom). Who would be interested in our youth group getting involved with that? Or maybe something else? If there's something you know about that you think is worth looking into, let us know about it.

Well, these are just some thoughts I had. Let's hear some of yours now.

Ya know, when I first heard about the OneVerse thing, I thought that was pretty cool. It would be neat to get involved in that! :)

Yeah the money thing can get out of hand. I am still really praying right now for God to help me raise the money to go to Brazil, if it is His will that I go this year.
I probably won't be able to go with you guys for our summer mission trip unless I get all of college paid for too. But you know what? Money shouldn't be a factor in things we do. If it is God's will, the money will just pop up somewhere somehow. :]

Just thought I'd add this thought...

Of course, one could argue that there's plenty mission opportunities that we could take advantage of that do NOT cost anything. Yeah, that's true. But I'm talking about the things that DO cost money. And in any case, giving is important, regardless of what opportunities we have. At the end of the day, even after we have exploited every opportunity for cost-free evangelism, God still expects us to give.

Hey guys. Guess what? This is the newest challenge. Next person to share their thoughts on this subject wins. Who will it be?

When I think of how to spend my money I think: is it worth it, will I use it a lot, will it mean anything to whom I am giving it.

Paintball to me is a waste of money on the other hand suporting Pankajan, those going on the Brazil trip, even the OneVerse ministry will hopefully touch someones life for the good & maybe lead them to Christ which should be our goal in life if we are Christians.

That is just my opion.

Thank you Sarah. You win.

However, that doesn't end the discussion. What do the rest of you think? What do you think about this idea that God could financially bless our youth group if we gave to the right things for the right reasons in the right spirit? Who can give me some of the verses that back up this idea?

At the very least, give us your thoughts about us getting involved with OneVerse. If y'all really want to, I'll mention it to Aaron. But I have to believe you're serious about it, so let me know your thougths.

Next person to give us their thoughts won't win any prize, but sharing your thoughts will show us that you really care about the direction of our youth group and that you recognize your part to play. And that's much more important than winning some game.

Well, I would like to do the OneVerse thing. My Verse that goes great with the topic is in the comment I made under the letter Pankajan wrote, but I'll write it again.
-"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed."
~Proverbs 16:3

If our plan is to go to Brazil, or even MFuge, then if we commit to the Lord, our plans will happen.
:O AMAZING!
