Ice Skating thoughts... =P

Hey guys!

It sure has been quiet on the blog here lately. What have you all been up to?
I don't know about you guys, but I am so sore from our Ice Skating trip! O_O I've been taking tiny baby steps since Saturday because of my legs being so sore. I don't know if they're hurting from the skating or the falling, either way, I must be out of shape or something! =P I think I must have fallen second most(JD taking the trophy for most falls, of course), I got a great close up of that ice five times. ^_^
Unfortunately I don't have any horror stories of how my flesh got ripped off of my bones from falling or anything like that...
Eww...
But my hand did get pretty messed up the time that I fell right after hanging on to Jason's poor jacket (lol, Sorry about that). I had reached out my hand to break my fall, but at the time I was wearing a bracelet that Mrs. Javonna had given me. So instead of hitting just ice, my metallic bracelet was caught in the middle and when I landed it got smashed into pieces (Never did find all of the pieces).
Oh, not to mention that my hand was bleeding, but that's just a minor drawback. =P I didn't even notice my hand was bleeding until a few minutes after getting back up. lol.

Overall I had a pretty good time for a first try. I couldn't Rollerblade forward (I tended to somehow skate backwards in those things), but I really enjoyed the Ice Skating even though I got pretty beat up from it. It got enjoyable right after I finally let go of that rail and started skating solo. I realized that it made no difference if I was next to the rail or not, I was still going to fall. So I figured I might as well enjoy falling on the side of skating rink instead of by the rail with the little 6 year olds. lol!

Oh, speaking of 6 year olds, while I was skating I saw a little girl all by her self. I went up to her and I noticed that she was crying, so I asked what was wrong. She told me that she couldn't find her parents, so I helped her find them. After she left I didn't think much of it and just continued skating.
Later that night after my Mother had picked me up from Church she told me that she needed to buy some cat food at Wal-mart (Poor kittys were living off of cheese for a day *Sniffle*). After we had bought it and we were walking out to out car I passed a little girl, she waved at me and then I realized who she was. It was the same girl that I had tried to help earlier that day.
It just struck me that we both crossed paths at the skating rink in Little Rock, then again in a location two hours drive away, in Hope.
I still don't know quite what that meant, or why it happened. But I thought it was pretty interesting. =)

Anyway! What did you guys think about the trip? I didn't get the impression that Ryan enjoyed it terribly much, he seemed happier in the van then anywhere else. ;P
Oohh, the van ride... I don't even know if I want to comment on that part of the trip! lol =P

Trial Blog

Hey guys. In case you haven't noticed, Blogger can be a little frustrating sometimes. Just today, I tried adding a site meter and the whole thing nearly fell apart. Anyone who was on at around 3:00 today might have found the blog all...messed up...yeah. Don't ask.

Anyway, I've set up a trial blog for experimenting with new things. Any of you guys whose got some computer sense and would like to take a stab at finding things we can do to our blog, let me know and I'll get you set up as an administrador on the trial blog. There we can do anything we want without worrying about messing up what we've got set up here.
Hey this is Shaun jasons been tellin me to put somethin up here so here i am. yep puttin my first entry on here so thats all i thinkn of right now but ill add somemore when i can think of somethin else cya

1st time

Hi,

This is my 1st time post so it 's not going to be long, but I thought I might try it out.

Well, well, well...

Hey guys and gals. Can you believe JD finally got on here?! And he did it all by himself! That's one more addition to our contributors list, but I still have a long list of members pending, and even though we have a lot of members on the list, we only have a few that seem to be embracing the whole blog community idea. So, if you're out there and you're a member, let's hear from ya. You don't have to make a post if you don't want to, just leave comments or something.

A couple thoughts: We need to add a little to this thing. I was thinking about a tagboard, but I'm not sure about that because I don't think there's an easy way to keep just anybody from posting to it. If any of you guys want to look into that and see what the possiblities are, please do. You can start by going to Blogger help from your dashboard, and going to Add-ons under the section called "Advanced Use". Lemme know if you find anything there that might make using a tagboard easier, or if you find something else you think we could use.

I also want to encourage you to look at old posts. You can still comment on them. Do it. Even if they're not current, they're still open to discussion. If you want to share something about Planet Wisdom, for example, go ahead and leave comments on that post. I'm still checking it and I hope you are too.

Other thoughts: I've been messing around with the template. I flopped the sidebar and posts to see how that looked. Not so sure. Can't put my finger on it, but something about it just didn't look right. If you guys think it would be better that way, though, I can do it. I also added a footer. Took me forever to figure out how to do that, but I finally did. I went ahead and put that verse from Ecclesiastes there. I'm also still looking for the best way to describe ourselves in the "Who We Are" section. Wanna keep it short but complete. Gimme some ideas.

Anyway, I'll probably keep making posts like this from time to time - asking for ideas on the blog or suggesting ways of using it more efficiently. So take a look at them and try to think of your own ideas. Try to think of ways to get this thing off the ground.

And join us! If you're a member, but you're just reading and not sharing, stoppit! We want you to contribute!

jd's smart elic remarks

Finally its about time we got a blog. Now yall can be with JD every day of the week

Planet Wisdom 2006

Hey guys. Got some pics here from Planet Wisdom. A little late, but here they are. If any of you guys have some, post 'em. If you have any problems posting pics, let me know.

So Planet Wisdom was awesome, as always. Mark is a great speaker and a very smart and real Christian. "By the Tree" was great, too. If you guys haven't checked out the Planet Wisdom website, you should. There's a link to it from our blog. Go check it out. There's a lot of cool stuff there.

A couple thoughts about what we experienced there: Remember what Mark said about us being the next generation of the church? Do we ever think about that? It's true. We are. I know it's hard to keep that in mind sometimes. The church doesn't do much to remind us. But we are the next generation. One day, they'll be gone and we will be in charge (well, hopefully God will be in charge, but you know what I mean). What will the church be like then? Will it be the same as it is now? Should it be?

I also want to encourage all of you guys to pay attention to what's happening in our youth group. Are we growing closer? I think about the seinor high boys in my hotel room that night - wrestling around (keeping the girls awake, lol, sorry Melody). Do we recognize that God was moving even there? God is moving everytime we are together, no matter what we're doing. He wants us to grow closer so that we can be more effective for Him. That's why I've set up this blog - to encourage communication. So keep posting. Share your thoughts about Planet Wisdom on the comment section, or, if you have some pics to share, make a new post. Tell us what God laid on your heart through that experience. He put it there for a reason.

Almost There...

Hey guys. Going pretty good, but we're not quite rolling yet. This next week, encourage everyone who's not on here or who hasn't posted yet to go ahead and do so. If they're having problems, try to help them out. If you can't, tell me and I'll see what I can do.

Thoughts About Our Blog Title

Not a big deal, just wondering: Do you guys think we should change the title of our blog to say "The Calvary Baptist Church Youth Group Blog" and the text underneath to say something about what it's for? I like the verse from Ecclesiastes, but I was thinking it might be better to make it clear what this thing is all about. Gimme some input. If we want to do it that way, we can find another place to put the verse if you guys like that.

Wow......so this is blog....

Well, looks as if we have things going pretty swimmingly. This is gonna be an awesome tool we can use for the youth. Gary WILL NEVER LEARN TO GET ON HERE! XD! >.> <.< ^_^!

Well I guess we could see if we could teach a very very very old dog a not so new trick. lol!
}{elooooooo Calvary!

Wow, I had no idea you could do a co-blog. Thats neat! But no wonder Jason (*taps on screen* hey Jason, you there? :D ) has such headaches with it: the whole multi-user blog thing being pretty unique.

Say, after everything gets settled down a bit, I have a few ideas of some cool stuff we could do here.

For instance:
How would you guys like to have our own online radio station? It could be complete with audio commentary *looks at Ryan*, music, a built-in radio chat room, and all sorts of other cool stuff. We could each send the various music we like (so long as it's legit' and legally free. Yes, such music does exist lol) via e-mail to me or Jason depending on how it eventually works out, and have it play right here for everybody. Kind of the amalgamated musical tastes of Calvary. It's quite feasible, and I know of a few different methods to get it to work. We could do it with a built-in player right here on the page; or a link that once clicked, starts up your music player of choice and plays the music live, streaming it across the Net. There are a few technical details I'd have to work out with Jason, like if we do an embedded player I'll have to know if Blogger allows or has certain things. But, if you guys think this is a cool idea and if Jason isn't too brain-fried from keeping this place from flying apart at the seams I think it is do-able.

What do you guys think? Good idea, bad idea, questions? C'mon people feedback, FEEDBACK! Lol.

Youth Group Photos =]

Hey guys!

Here are some pictures of some of our previous Youth Group activites! Enjoy! =]
(Hopefully they'll actually stay on the blog this time. *Defends her photos from Jason, who just so happens to like to press "Delete" buttons :P *)

Blogger Problems Fixed

Well, looks like we're up and running again. There seems to be a little confusion so I guess I should clarify: Melody's post was not the problem. I thought it was, but I was wrong. The problem was with Blogger. So everything is fine. Keep posting.

We've still got some members who hasn't accepted the invite yet. Hope they will soon. If you have and you haven't posted yet, go ahead - make your presence known! I'm still waiting for everyone to get used to this thing before I start trying to put it to any real use, so go ahead and start trying it out so I'll know you're there.

Blogger Problems

Hey guys. I'm getting very frustrated with this thing. If any of you tried to post something last night or this morning, you probably got some kind of error message, right? I worked and worked to fix the problem. I thought that it had something to do with the last post that had been made, so I deleted it (sorry Melody). Well, that didn't do it either. And since the problem was with the publishing, Melody's post was actually still there. But if you're reading this post, the problem must be fixed. If that's the case, Melody's post should be gone.

Anyway, after working on the problem for a while, I finally went to Blogger support. Somewhere around 20 or so people had complained about the exact same problem within the last hour, so I pretty much knew at that point that the problem wasn't with us.

I tried again this morning and the problem was still here. I finally e-mailed Blogger and they sent me this:

Blogger Status
Thursday, March 16, 2006

The filer that we have been having trouble with in the last few days failed again. Those blogs that are stored on the bad filer are temporarily not available for publishing and viewing. We are working on replacing the filer and restoring access to the blogs affected.

Update (7 am, March 17): we are still in the process migrating data off of the bad filer. We sincerely apologize for the continuing problems.

So, hopefully the problem is fixed now. If you're reading this post, it must be. I just wanted to say keep it up. I think this blog could be a very good thing for our youth group. We need to communicate. Satan's gonna try to keep us from doing that - all the more reason why we should. So, keep posting. If you have problems, let me know. It might be Blogger. If that's the case, we'll just wait it out.

The Welcome Reloaded

Hey guys. Glad to see you all are finally getting on. Keep posting. If you're having problems figuring everything out, just be patient. You'll get the hang of it. Once you do, this should be pretty cool. If you're just now getting on, scroll down and read my "Welcome" post. That should give you an idea of what this is for.

Couple thoughts on how we can do this: okay, maybe I'm just being picky, but I wanted to encourage you guys to use your first names for your display names. If you have the same first name as someone else in our group, go ahead and put the first letter of your last name (like this: Jason M. You don't need an underscore or anything like that). Otherwise, just use your first name 'cause it looks too formal using both names. I know. I'm being picky. Do it however you want, so long as we know who you are when you post.

Also, I was thinking we should use the comments as a sort of thread, so you don't need to make a new post for everything you wanna say. Like if you wanted to elaborate on something someone else said, just make a comment on their post. Don't make another post. Unless you just want to.

Anyway, keep posting. I've got some pics from Planet Wisdom. I'll post 'em once everyone starts getting on.

Jason?

Jason This is blake beard and um i am at school supost to be doing a paper but i got the email

Welcome

Hey Calvarites. This is for you. Post whatever you want - thoughts, topic suggestions, prayer request, pics, jokes, etc. Also, we're still working on the layout. Let me know if you have any ideas concerning that. For example, even though this is primarily for our group only, I added the "Who We Are" section to the sidebar for people who visit. Let me know of any ideas for a more thorough description or if you think we even need it at all. Also think about links we can add (preferably ministries that our group has been a part of) and different add-ons we can use(tagboard, guestbook, etc.).

Anyway, I guess that about covers it. Again, use this to post anything you want to share with us. Even if you don't post, check us out occasionally to keep up with announcements, see pics from recent events, or just to learn what's going on in the lives of your fellow youth group members. Enjoy.
