Well, I don't know about you guys, but I've been really excited lately about our blog. Maybe it's just me, but it seems that there's been some particuarly cool communication action going on here. There's been some cool stuff posted, such as Ben's poetry, and many of you have given some insightful thoughts on posts like "Awesome Stuff..." and "Serving the Lord". Also, the roll call got responses from some folks we'd not heard much from, and with our new guestbook, hopefully we can start hearing from folks outside our group. So, yeah, I'm excited, as you may have seen in my last post.
But, darn it - what a time for things to pick up! School's out now, and I know that many of you don't have access to this at home. So what's gonna happen? Well, I pray that things continue in the direction they're going. I mean - summer! What better time to be blogging than now as we prepare for Pineywoods and all the other great things God will doing with our group.
But it's gonna take a concentrated effort from all of you. I really want to encourage you all to keep the blog alive. If you're one of those that reads this but doesn't use it, stop doing that. I'm not asking you to post something for the sake of posting something - I'm asking you to engage. Engage in discussions. You don't have to make posts at all if you don't want - the real action happens in the comments, so read them and add your own. I'm asking you to engage in these discussions just as you would a discussion at church. Shaun, I'm looking in your direction, buddy. Your input on the "Serving the Lord" post was awesome! Let's hear more from you, man!
Those of you who are engaged in the action on here, I'm gonna ask you guys to keep it up and maybe even bump it up a notch. Don't work yourself to a point where you get burnt out on it, just make a concentrated effort to ensure the blog doesn't die out during these summer months.
So keep it up! Don't let this recent blog usage be just a momentary fad. Let's continue on this path.
What's Happening on the Blog...
Take a look for yourself...

The Angels Embrace
An angels Embrace.
To everyone else your just a teen,
But through the aAngels eyes you can do things unseen,
You are forever locked in the Angels embrace,
Time to step out of the shadow of disgrace,
You walk in the light of day,
But darkness has taken your life away,
You cower in a corner, face full of tears,
When suddenly the angel reappears,
You must stay strong,
No need for evil, It just brings more wrong,
You are in the Angels embrace,
Evil is wiped away without a trace,
All the Angel has is love,
like a flock of white doves,
The darkness is starting to rain down,
And the Demons start coming around,
But then you are reminded,
Your lifes fate is already decided,
To walk in the light,
You are in the Angels embrace,
Time to live your life with grace.

I think a movie this Thurday would be cool. We kinda thought about it Sunday after the meal, but I don't know if it was seriously considered. I mean there are some good movies out right now *coughs* "X3, Over the Hedge"*coughs*. I think it would be cool on Thursday, at least for the School-kids...I dunno if Homeschoolers would be able to make it, because don't you guys continue with school....thats poo...Although, I am sure if we did it early in the day, there would be no problem...
Soooooo what do y'all think of this idea? FEEDBACK PEOPLE! FEEDBACK!!!!!!!!

Your poem you requested
The Lord
How could I forget the Lord that died for me,
Our life is sinned, cause of an old forbidden fruit tree,
You have to walk in the path of the Lord,
Even if the church your in makes you bored,
The lord died for you too, It's sad, but true,
The stupid people spit in his face,
But now he walks in heaven with grace,
The passion of the Christ brings tears to my eyes,
This whole world is full of darkness and lies,
Why can't he just come back now,
Then the Devil would beweld a scowl,
everything would suddenly get better,
all of the sick would be healed,
Then my death would be sealed,
I lay my life in the hands of the Lord,
Following him has the greatest reward,
You should trust him with all your heart,
Beings that he made you, that would be smart,
The Lord created all,
All the Devil has done is fall,
When he died on the cross, And came back,
He showed them all whose boss,
You need to love God more than anyone else,
If you believe in the Lord you will hear church bells,
But if not, The only thing your gonna be seeiin is Hell.

Awesome Stuff...
Well, we had a decent response to the blog member roll call - didn't hear from everybody, but we heard from a good chunk of you. And many of you who we didn't hear from did make an effort (those of you still having problems just let me know). The roll call has been officially archived, but there will be another blog assingment soon - just to keep up activity and improve things a little. So be on the look out for it.
JD once said that our blog is "one of a kind". While I happen to believe that JD was just being his usual sarcastic self, I'm actually starting to realize that he was right. Here's why I say this...
Some of you may wonder why our address - calvaryyouthofhope.blogspot.com - is so long. Well, believe it or not, all the other variations of "Calvary youth group" I could think of when setting up this blog seemed to be taken. Calvaryyouth, calvaryyouthgroup, etc. I eventually figured out that I should add "Hope" in there somewhere to make it unique. "Calvaryyouthofhope" sounded better than "hopecalvaryyouth", so I opted for that one.
Out of curiosity, I decided to check out some of these other Calvaries. Most of them seemed relatively unused. That led to me to be curious about other youth group blogs (I figured we weren't the only one that does this). In all my searching, I could not find a single one like ours. Most had next-to-no contributors (if they were in fact a team blog, which most weren't). Most had not been updated in forever. And most just seemed slapped together without any care.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that our youth group is better than any other youth group. What I am saying is that the way God is using this blog as a tool is really awesome. Yes, our blog is one of a kind! This blog can be an awesome tool for an awesome youth group. You guys just keep it up.
And keep up the excitment about what God is doing in our group - and He's doing a lot in case you haven't noticed! We should be discussing that! So leave some comments about what you see happening - what we have to be thankful for...or maybe about what you're thankful for in your own personal experiences.

The Future of the Dark Game
Good times tonight...right up until Naomi's accident.
So, what is the future of this little game we all love so much? It's hard to say. I will say this: we need to find a new location. It's just too risky at the church.
Not risky in the sense that something bad will happen. I think all of you did an awesome job of following all the rules and being very careful. In fact, I don't see any way you could have been more careful. The injury was an unfortunate accident which could have happened doing just about any physical activity - though I will say that in the future we should make it a rule to wear shoes. That aside, though, I'm really proud of you guys for being so responsible.
No, when I say "too risky", I'm referring to the risk we run of upsetting somebody. It's only a matter of time, if it's not already in the works, before word gets out that we're doing something "rambunctious" in the children's building. I realize that we in fact learned how to play this game from another youth group in their own education building, but things are just different at Calvary. The fact is that, no matter how responsible we are, some people are going to have a problem with us simply being in that building. And I don't want to be responsible for any problems.
I'd like to be able to do some things with you guys this summer - things without Gary, since he'll be busy at work. If something were to go wrong while playing this little game (or if simply the wrong person found us playing it), there probably wouldn't be much chance of us getting to do anything in the future without an "adult" (I guess some people just don't realize that I'm actually 22).
So what is the future of the dark game? I don't know. Maybe we should put it on the back burner until we can come up with a better location. If any of you know any good locations, let's have 'em.
-----------------------------------------------------
In as much as we all love talking about the Dark Game, there are more important things we could be discussing. I hope some of you will scroll down and check out the post titled "Serving the Lord" and contribute to that discussion.

More Random Pictures ^_^
Hey guys,
I was looking through some of my photos and found some pictures of you guys from several different trips that I had forgotten about. Some of them are even two years old. So it's a variety of different things.
I have yet to go through them all (too many! O_O *faints*), I've also got some pics that are on my Mother's computer and then Joe gave me some from his Camera. Sooo yeah, there are some more. lol. I'll post those sometime, though not all at once because that would be over-kill. XD
For now here are the ones that I've come across so far! Enjoy! ^_^

Serving the Lord
If we love Him, we will serve Him.
Remember this? This is what the speaker said at Cross Connection and what Gary elaborated on later that night. What does this mean? Is our youth group really serving the Lord, or are we just having fun? In what ways could we better serve the Lord?
It seems we're all just spiritual babies in need of our own ministry. When are we going to start being a ministry ourselves? When are we going to develop a true desire to reach people? Do we even realize that this is part of what we need to be doing?
I wish some of you could go with me to Brazil this July and see what we do there - what God does through us. Have any of you ever been a part of something wherein you could see people saved as a result of what God was doing through you? If you could, would that make a difference in your perspective of our purpose as a youth group? What would you do as a result of this change in perspective?
I have asked many questions here and given no answers. This is intentional. I want your input. Don't think you have nothing to say on this issue. You do. Do you not have a perspective on these specific questions? If not, why? Are these not the things you think of when you think about a youth group? If not, what do you think of when you think about a youth group - any youth group?
I want to hear from anyone with something to say. I hope to hear from more than just the usual people. Some of you have contributed to this blog for the first time recently in responce to the roll call. Now it's time to take a step further and actually let us know not just that you're there, but about some of your deeper thoughts as well. And once you do, come back often to see what has been said in response to your thoughts and to read the thoughts of others.

UTH II
Greetings all ye bloggers! It's that time again!
It's under the hat, with you host, Gregoid.
as always I have several things to talk about. We have one cool web site, and one peice of neat software, this time around.
This week's webby is www.woot.com ; a very unique little website that sells one weird item a day. Yup, just one (unless it is a woot-off, but that's a whole 'nother ball game.) But buying these weird, and "unique" items isn't the fun part, it's reading the spin they put on each product. With quirky humor (though, it can get a touch crude sometimes) and just plain weird "podcasts" (Streamed audio, kinda like an online radio station.) it's almost certain you will get a good laugh when you drop by. The podcast is on the right, just below the picture of today's item. Check it out!
www.woot.com
Neat Software! Neat software!
Ok, ok, I here ya. I got somethin' for all you platformer-lovers out there. It's called Eternal Daughter. A neat little bit of freeware, very similar to the old Nintendo classics (right down to the low-bitrate music and sadistic difficulty), this little labor-of-love is highly addictive and will surely cause countless hours to be lost that could have been better put to use :) . The story surrounds a young girl, Mia, whose people have been put in slavery by a race of greedy, quasy-robotic beings. As the story kicks off Mia finds that she has some very mysterious powers that she cannot explan (though that doesn't stop her from using them to fight the oppressors of her people.). The little gem isn't TOO large (though 9.4 megs can seem like it takes forever to download at times) and the time invested in watching the little blue bar crawl across the screen is well worth it. Another thing of note is that you never have to install this game! It runs direct from the .exe, which opens up some interesting possibilities, such as running the game off a flash drive on any computer you come across.
http://www.acid-play.com/download/eternal-daughter/
And as for what been cookin' in my cranium, the answer would have to be not much. Atleast not much of anything that is worth discussing. So it'll probably have to wait till next post :P
Anyway that's it for now, Have a good'n everybody!

Cross Connection
Okay, it's a little late, but here are some of the pictures we got from our trip to El Dorado. For those of you who weren't able to go, I'll try to tell you a little about it.
The first night was a worship service with a band called "Common Ground". We also heard from this really good speaker who talked about serving God.
We spent the night in the family life center of one of the churches involved.

The church's youth leader stayed with us and introduced us to this really cool game that you play in the dark. Despite staying up 'till 2 in the morning playing this awesome new game, we were all very anxious to get started the next day...

So, this is us after the morning worship service. Notice our new member...

After the morning worship service, we broke up and went to a couple conferences which were meant to show us unique ways of ministering to people.
In the afternoon, every church was given a special assignment in the El Dorado area. We were sent to a church camp several miles outside town where we got things ready for summer.

Here's some of the work we did. I thought this was a really cool assignment. There was a lot of work that had to be done before they opened. God always does awesome things at church camps, so it was cool to help with that.
Betcha didn't know Ben could play the piano.
Lot's of other cool stuff that didn't get documented by the camera. I really liked this trip. Not sure what it was exactly, but it was fun.
Those of you who went, tell us what you liked about it or maybe what you learned.
And yes, let's also talk about a time and place to play the dark game.

In case you haven't been here in a while, remember to scroll down and check out some of the other posts. Haven't commented on the roll call? Go ahead and do it!

Roll Call 2
Hey everyone. Doing good. Not much new stuff happening on here lately. I've got some pics from Cross Connection, but I haven't had a chance to post them yet. I can't seem to upload them from my computer, so I'll have to go somewhere else to do it - somewhere with a better internet connection. Also, I'm sorta wanting to wait and give people a chance to speak up on the roll call before we move on.
This is the second roll call. I'm putting it up because the old one seems to have been forgotten. A couple of you guys went ahead and made a whole post, which is awesome. But all I'm really asking is that everyone comment on one post (this one). I figure that would be a good way for everyone who hasn't spoken up to do so in one place.
So here it is. If you didn't comment the first time, go ahead and do it now. Consider it an assignment. If you commented before (or if you made a post instead), I won't ask you to do it again unless you just feel the need. Otherwise, we're waiting to hear from you.
Just to make sure you all totally understand what I'm asking for, here's a list of folks we're still waiting on:
Blake
Brad
Sarah
JD
Mackenzie
Naomi
See your name here? If so, we want you to leave a simple comment on this post. Simply click "Comments" below and type something up to let us know you're there. Couldn't be more simple.

Gary's Birthday... Any plans?
Hey guys,
It's been discussed randomly in some of the other topics, but I think this deserves a topic of it's own.
Anyone got any ideas for Gary's Birthday? (May 9th, I believe...) Since his B-day is just one day before a Wednesday, I would guess if we would want to do anything it'd be on the 10th?
I'm still thinking about it, though Javonna said to not do anything too mean to him. I'll keep that in mind. XD
So far I've got a card, originally when I started working on it I was just going to give it to him myself, but now I think it would be really awesome if we could all put a little something into it. At least having all of us sign it on the inside of that card after the note. I think that would be lovely. ^_^
Here is the unfinished cover (Teehee) :

Buwahha! =P
Since it's (hopefully) from all of us to Gary it'd be fitting to have all of us in the cover, but since I originally hadn't thought of it as a group project I only drew it like this. =(
Even though I would love to have everyone drawn on the card, ya have no idea how long it would take to draw everyone from our youth group all in one picture. If I did that by the time I got done with it Gary would be 90! XD
What 'ya think? Hum? Hum? Hum? Huuummm???? lol ^_^
