T-minus 2 weeks and counting!

ALRIGHTY THEN EVERYONE! IN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS PLANET WISDOM WILL BE UPON US! I know that this will be a great trip! There will be mochas as far as the eye can see and someone....(hopefully not me this time) WILL get hurt! RASSLIN MATCH IN THE HOTEL ROOM!

Also as fun as PW is, it isn't just about fun. It is about growing in your spiritual walk. I hope that we will both get to know our brothers and sisters in Christ and get to know ourselves more as we become stronger Christians....

What do you guys think?

Of course. Always the goal, right?

But God's been putting some stuff on my mind lately - about myself, and then after that, about our youth group.

The thing I've realized (and I might have eluded to this a little the last time I led the Wednesday night discussion) is that I'm always waiting for something that I myself am responsible for making happen (or at least, I'm responsible for relying on God to make it happen).

Here's a semi-silly example: I really want to get into better shape - start working out a little and getting more fit. But I get too discouraged and won't keep up with a routine. Recently I realized that my unconcious rational is that I'll start commiting myself to a harder workout once I get into better shape. Yes, that's stupid, but that's how we think, isn't it?

It's like that with my spiritual walk too. I'll get closer to God once I start being the Christian I'm supposed to be (or maybe it's the other way around). Point is, I'm always waiting, making excuses for not being there yet and pretending that there's more to be accomplished before I can even try to be there. This is a lie. It's Satan's way of making sure we never get off our butts and be what God wants us to be.

Seems like it's the same way with our youth group. We keep waiting. We're waiting for PlanetWisdom, we're waiting for church camp, we're waiting for this, we're waiting for that. This past spring, we were waiting for a new leader. Now we're waiting for everyone to start following him.

But I've come to an even more disturbing realization than that. Our youth group is not our experience at PlanetWidsom. It is not our experience at church camp. Our youth group is who we are on a typical Wednesday night. That is the most common setting in which we're together. It is the headquarters of youth group. Know what that means? That means that if there's a such thing as a typical mundane Wednesday night, we must have a typical mundane youth group.

Well I say we DON'T have a typical mundane youth group. God has a plan for us, which should be evident after the awesome celebration our church just had. Our 50th anniversary should remind us that God has a purpose for our church and for our youth group, and that makes us anything but mundane. And if we're truly growing in Christ and if we're truly gathering in His name on Wednesday nights, then ideally, every Wednesday night should be better than the last.

So why do so many Wednesday nights just sorta fly by like any other weekly routine? Sure, there will be down time now and then, but in general, Wednesday nights should be awesome - a mini-PlanetWisdom every week. No, you won't grow tired of that, not if we really doing it God's way.

So why wait for PlanetWisdom? PlanetWisdom is just a student "conference". A conference is a place for people to "confer" with each other. PlanetWisdom is a gathering of youth groups from all over to meet and study God's word. But our youth group is a family with a purpose to (in the words of Bro. Kennedy) "be a lighthouse to the lost". Our youth group is a force to be reckoned with, and when we gather each Wednesday night, evil beware!

It was because of these thoughts that I posed the question below this post. That question is not there only for people who feel they already have an answer to it. It is there to make you THINK of an answer. So think of one, and let us hear it.

But anyway, of course we're all looking forward to PlanetWisdom, and it really should be a special time. Check out PlanetWisdom.com (which, btw, you can access from our sidebar) and see what's new there. What's the topic this year? Is this topic something that's been on your mind lately? What can you be thinking and praying about in preperation for hearing God speak through Mark about this topic?

It's coming closer! It's hard to believe it's this week, it seems like it should still be far away. But I am glad that it's here, I'm starting to get really excited about it! ^_^

And Jason, you're right, it does seem like we're always waiting for the next thing. It's not bad to want changes to come with these trips, but we have to remember that change can come at any time. Sometimes the most unexpected times can make the most impact in our lives. :]
