a place for our members to share thoughts and ideas and to discuss God's direction for our group and our lives
We want to hear from Calvary youth alumni, friends, church members, and anyone else who happens to stumble onto our little blog here. Tell us who you are and what's on your mind.

To learn more about God. (tipacal Sunday School answer)
It is to learn more about & how to follow God. Not just fun, games, food, fellowship & getting to know each other, that is one way to get people to come, but that is not the real meaning of comming. For me it is learning more about the Bible.
Growth.
If any change is going to happen within us it all takes growth and a reason for the motivation to grow.
We don't suddenly wake up one morning and become a better person, instantly stop saying hurtful things and change our attitude.
What's the point of youth group if we don't even try to change to be who God wants us? Sure we can listen to Bible lessons and memorize the verses, we can go and hang out with our friends and have a good time. But all of that will be left behind in our next stage of life. We would still be the same people, no further in our walk with God then where we were in our teen years.
There is so much more to Youth group, but it's up to you how much you're willing to receive from it and give back.
Hanging back won't get you anywhere, but I understand why you would want to. Especially when you feel like you don't fit in. I've felt the sting from words of unacceptance within even our own group. I've been told that nobody cares about me, that I'm stupid and asked why I even come anymore. Well I'll tell you why I come, because I know that in this stage in my life the youth group is my main source for growing, understanding who God is and what God wants from me.
Everyone has different reasons. To me, it's about learning more of God and who he wants me to be, and if you make great friendships along the way that's wonderful.
It's about all these things happening within all of us individually, but also what is happening in us as a whole. A group. It's not called "Calvary's random-teen-people-who-are-all-in-the-same-building" it's a "Youth Group" because that's the say we should be, together. Caring for each other and encouraging
each other in our walks with Christ.
To me, that's what a youth group should be. Maybe that's just me, but that's my 2 cents (so now you are 2 pennies richer than you were before reading this. =] ).
I could not have said it any better myself Melody. You just have a way wit word.
If your answer has already been said, I want you to try putting it in your own words.
Does anybody else want to answer this question? Your answer doesn't have to be profound. It doesn't have to be better than Melody's. In fact, it can be Melody's answer said in your own words. All I want is for you to answer it in some way. I want to hear from everyone who reads this comment.
Or not...
