Serving the Lord

If we love Him, we will serve Him.

Remember this? This is what the speaker said at Cross Connection and what Gary elaborated on later that night. What does this mean? Is our youth group really serving the Lord, or are we just having fun? In what ways could we better serve the Lord?

It seems we're all just spiritual babies in need of our own ministry. When are we going to start being a ministry ourselves? When are we going to develop a true desire to reach people? Do we even realize that this is part of what we need to be doing?

I wish some of you could go with me to Brazil this July and see what we do there - what God does through us. Have any of you ever been a part of something wherein you could see people saved as a result of what God was doing through you? If you could, would that make a difference in your perspective of our purpose as a youth group? What would you do as a result of this change in perspective?

I have asked many questions here and given no answers. This is intentional. I want your input. Don't think you have nothing to say on this issue. You do. Do you not have a perspective on these specific questions? If not, why? Are these not the things you think of when you think about a youth group? If not, what do you think of when you think about a youth group - any youth group?

I want to hear from anyone with something to say. I hope to hear from more than just the usual people. Some of you have contributed to this blog for the first time recently in responce to the roll call. Now it's time to take a step further and actually let us know not just that you're there, but about some of your deeper thoughts as well. And once you do, come back often to see what has been said in response to your thoughts and to read the thoughts of others.

Here's an opportunity that has just become available to us:

Last night, some of us attended a Sonicflood concert in Nashville. The band was sponsoring an organization called Compassion International. It's one of these programs that allows you to sponsor a child living in third world conditions. Ryan took the initiative to suggest that our youth group sponsor one of these kids.

The child we received, which was totally random, is named Pankajan Gurusami. She is 11 and from India. You'll have a chance to read more about her this Wednesday. Anyone interested in this, we are going to try to meet Wednesday after church to discuss it further.

This is an awesome opportunity, you guys. And I want to reiterate that it was Ryan's idea. You see, that is what I'm getting at: this is YOUR ministry. It should be you guys who see and get excited about opportunities such as this. That's part of our purpose as a youth group.

Let's hear from more of you - not just about Pankajan, but about this concept of ministry in general. What are your thoughts?
