Awesome Stuff...

Well, we had a decent response to the blog member roll call - didn't hear from everybody, but we heard from a good chunk of you. And many of you who we didn't hear from did make an effort (those of you still having problems just let me know). The roll call has been officially archived, but there will be another blog assingment soon - just to keep up activity and improve things a little. So be on the look out for it.

JD once said that our blog is "one of a kind". While I happen to believe that JD was just being his usual sarcastic self, I'm actually starting to realize that he was right. Here's why I say this...

Some of you may wonder why our address - calvaryyouthofhope.blogspot.com - is so long. Well, believe it or not, all the other variations of "Calvary youth group" I could think of when setting up this blog seemed to be taken. Calvaryyouth, calvaryyouthgroup, etc. I eventually figured out that I should add "Hope" in there somewhere to make it unique. "Calvaryyouthofhope" sounded better than "hopecalvaryyouth", so I opted for that one.

Out of curiosity, I decided to check out some of these other Calvaries. Most of them seemed relatively unused. That led to me to be curious about other youth group blogs (I figured we weren't the only one that does this). In all my searching, I could not find a single one like ours. Most had next-to-no contributors (if they were in fact a team blog, which most weren't). Most had not been updated in forever. And most just seemed slapped together without any care.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that our youth group is better than any other youth group. What I am saying is that the way God is using this blog as a tool is really awesome. Yes, our blog is one of a kind! This blog can be an awesome tool for an awesome youth group. You guys just keep it up.

And keep up the excitment about what God is doing in our group - and He's doing a lot in case you haven't noticed! We should be discussing that! So leave some comments about what you see happening - what we have to be thankful for...or maybe about what you're thankful for in your own personal experiences.

Just so you all know, the next post made will push the post titled "Serving the Lord" into the archives. If you haven't contributed your thoughts to that yet, please do so. That's an important discussion and I really want to hear from you all. If you all want, maybe we can revive the discussion in a new post - for those of you who really feel that this is something our group needs to be focusing on.

I think serving the Lord is something our group really needs to focus on. I meen if they are not serving him then who are they serving??? No on. And that is not good at all. Um... J.D probably didn't intend on all that one of a kind Blog. That is about to much for his mind to comprehend. I think more people should be contributing to this post because it is important. And all of the ''responsible'' people like Greg need to hop to it. I think God is using this Blog every way he should. It has drawn people closer togetther and stuff.

Here's a thought I had - since we're talking about our ministry: this blog itself is a ministry.

You never know who might be reading this. Anyone strolling along on Blogger can, actually. Maybe someone has done like what I was talking about - searching other youth group blogs out of curiosity. Or maybe it's a church member wanting to see what's going on with us. Whatever the case may be, this blog is a reflection of us. What we say on here, how much we say it, how much we care about saying it - all of that reflects who we are. And that is ministry. That is serving the Lord.

Yes, this blog is primarily for us and our communication to each other. But it's no different than when we go to Planet Wisdom or church camp or something along those lines - we are representing both God and Calvary Baptist Church to those who see us. If they see a blog that reflects no communication, no purpose, no care about serving God, something's wrong.

On the other hand, if they do see those things, then what a difference that could make - not because it will make us look good, but because it sets an example! Again, that's part of ministry - being a living example!

I don't know who reads our blog, but I'm sure that if it's God's will, it can be used. We should keep the focus on God's will for us as a group, but at the same time, we need to be aware of how it will be seen by others. So keep the blog alive and in line with God's direction for our group!

Our blog IS one of a kind! And I think that's really cool. ^_^

I know that other people visit this place. I get emails from people I don't even know asking or suggesting things from what they've seen me post on this blog. So apparently there are some out there!

Oh, and maybe the "serving the Lord" topic should come back up at some point?.. Not right now, just sometime. I still haven't quite gotten my thoughts down on that yet..

Good stuff, everyone. Why aren't y'all this insightful on other posts?

Really, it's awesome to see you guys really discussing this. Keep it up - even if we're not talking about it, we can still make this our focus. So keep thinking about it. When you think of our youth group, think about a group unified with the purpose of doing God's will. As I said before, it's time our group moves past this stage of being spiritual infants in need of our own ministry - it's time to be the ministry to others.

I'm really excited about what really seems to be happening here, 'cause I really believe this is where God is leading us. But it's only going to work if you guys continue to recognize it and follow through with it.

Remember, we're meeting after the lesson on Wednesday to write our first letter to Pankajan and to take a group picture for her. Let's be serious about this, you guys! It's not just about the money we give her - it's about the relationship we form with her. I want to make her a part of our group in a sense, so let's really try to come up with ways of reaching her.

Anyway, keep the thoughts coming!
