Under The Hat...

}{ello! And welcome to the first installment of Under The Hat, a calvary-youth exclusive; your source for cool gizmos, neat websites, thought provoking questions, and generally bad grammar ;) . Basically just stuff that's tumbled through my noggin, impressed me with it's coolness, or bumped through my life at one time or another. Lol, it is kinda long now that I look back at it so feel free to just breze through and hit the highlights.

For the first category in our grand tour: Gizmos! Gadgets! And things that go beep in the night!

Ok, so you just found this really cool game demo on the web. The game looks absolutely awesome and your fire-breathing monster machine has more than enough power to churn through the high-poly, physics infused, HDR filled levels. But there is just one problem. Your stupid 56k Internet. The no-good lazy bum of a connection drops out faster than the class geek in a game of dodge ball. If only there was some way of picking up where you left off every time the connection broke, you muse to yourself... Well guess what, you can with Gigaget! This freeware program not only resumes disconnected downloads, right where they left off, but can also:

1. improve speed on a download by downloading the same file from several sources at once and splicing them all together to create one whole file.

2. Easily manage the locations of where files are saved to based on different categories.

3. Automatically ensure file integrity; no more failed downloads because of one blip on the phone line!

4. Set a "speed limit" on the download rate so you can have some of the bandwidth for surfing the net while your file continues to download in the background.

5. Automatically scan the file after the download completes for viruses using your existing anti-virus software.

And much much more!

Totally spyware free, the only drawback to this software is that you can't use it to get it ;) . What are you waiting for? Go grab a copy of the 2.1 MB .exe file at gigaget.com and save yourself some grief.

So that covers gizmos. On to websites!

=================================

Today's website of the week is... (drum roll please)

http://www.download.com/

Want games? they're here. Want programs? Oh yea. Want music? Got it. 50,000 of 'em actually. Want it all for free? Well thats pushing it but... Yes! Free!

I bet you never thought of going to a place with the word "download" for it's name to get the stuff you want off the net (Why? I dunno. Just defies logic, common sense, and the laws of nature and science that's all.). But I'm tellin' ya, this place is cool. With games ranging from cheesy flash demos to First person shooter-America's Amy and more you can probably find some piece of binary here to wile away the hours with useless drivel and devolve your mind into a pile of smoking lime-green jello.
Then, when the brain simply can't get any more vegetated, you can always drop on by the software section and check out Windowblinds, a neat little gizmo to make windows look the way YOU want it to, or grab Spyware Doctor to see just how much garbage you have on your system (So THAT'S where all those pop-ups were coming from!).
And finally, to chill while enjoying the new look of your Windows start bar, you can peruse the massive music section: with genres from Rock and Pop, to Jazz, Comedy, soundtracks and more. Download.com probably has the sound your hungry for. And best of all, it's all legally free. Jam away, frag on, and customize with a clear conscience my friends.

=========================

And finally, for your thought:

How does one know what direction God would have you go with your life? I mean you always hear that "God has a purpose for your life" but what exactly does that entail? I don't think God would have us all be missionaries, even though that is often considered "the highest calling" for a Christian, or pastors though that is obviously important too. So how does one determine what job to take, when you reach the time to take one and what to prepare for when in collage? Sure not all of us are at that place, but it is coming up very quickly for many.

So in short, Do we just take whatever job we want to take and God WILL use us there? OR, does God have a specific job for each of us, and if so how do we know what one that is so we can prepare for, and take it?

===============================

Well, that's it for now folks. Hope you've enjoyed my little mini-blog in our blog. Let me know what you think about it and/or the stuff I brought up!
Have a good'n!

Hey guys. Quick thing to point out since I see it happening here - when you go to delete a comment, you should see a little box that says "delete forever" or something like that - be sure to check that. That will completely delete your comment instead of leaving that annoying "comment deleted" thing.

Hey Greg, interesting point about God's will. I'd say the first step obviously is to have a relationship with him - to make him your number one priority. I also believe that God's will extends far beyond just your career or even things like your family. Before you can figure anything out, you must first understand what God calls us to be as people in general. I believe God made man and woman different. We were both made in His image, but I think we were made to reflect certain parts of his image. "God made man in His own image...male and female he created them." That's what Eldrege talks about in the book in mentioned before. As I read that book, it was very awesome for me to start to see my purpose in life as it relates to God's masculine image. I don't know where God will take me - I still want to be a filmmaker, but, after my experience in Brazil, I'm also thinking God might call me someday to be a missionary. Whatever happens, I know that God's ultimate will for me is for me to reflect His image in the way He made me to.
